"My AC stopped working mid-summer and Mackay diagnosed it quickly and explained everything in a way that made sense. He replaced the blower motor and capacitor, cleaned the system, and got it running again. What I appreciated most was the honesty — he educated me on what was needed and what to expect, with no pressure or sales tactics. Communication was excellent, the work thorough, the pricing fair. Highly recommend."

The Benefits

Why people choose mini splits

They're not just trendy—there are real reasons mini splits make sense.

High Efficiency

20-30% more efficient than central AC. SEER2 ratings of 20+ are common—that means lower electric bills.

Zone Control

Cool only the rooms you're using. No AC running in empty bedrooms—just pay for comfort where you need it.

Quiet Operation

Indoor units are nearly silent. Way quieter than window units or traditional split systems.

No Ductwork Required

Perfect for old homes, additions, or basements where running ducts is impossible. Minimal wall penetration needed.

Flexible Installation

Wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, or floor-standing options. Works with your home's layout, not against it.

Reliable Performance

Mini splits are mature technology. We install quality units that last 15-20+ years with proper maintenance.

Let's Talk Details

What you should know about mini splits

How Much Do They Cost?

A single-zone mini split (1 indoor unit) typically runs $3,000–$5,000 installed, depending on size and brand. Multi-zone systems (cooling 2-3 rooms from one outdoor unit) run $5,000–$8,000+.

That's usually more than a window unit but less than a full central AC retrofit. And the energy savings often pay back the difference in 5-7 years.

Will It Heat Too?

Most mini splits are heat pumps—they can cool in summer and heat in winter. A big bonus if you're looking to reduce heating bills, too. Some people use them as supplemental heating instead of cranking the furnace.

  • Cooling in summer
  • Heating in winter (down to ~20°F outdoor)
  • Works alongside your existing system or replaces it

Questions

Mini split FAQ

Do mini splits work in cold Utah winters?
Yes. Most heat pump mini splits work down to about 15–20°F. When it gets colder, your existing furnace can kick in. But for Utah winters, they're very effective as primary or supplemental heat.
Can I install a mini split myself?
No. Mini splits require refrigerant handling and electrical work that must be done by a licensed technician. DIY install voids warranties and creates safety issues. Get a pro to do it.
How long do mini splits last?
15–20 years with proper maintenance. Some last longer. Annual tune-ups help—clean filters, coil cleaning, and refrigerant checks. Just like with any AC system.
Do I need special maintenance?
Not much—pretty straightforward. Clean the filters regularly (monthly), wipe down indoor units now and then, and get a professional tune-up once a year. Same as any system.
What if my home's electrical panel can't handle it?
We'll assess your electrical before quoting. Sometimes a panel upgrade is needed, sometimes not. We'll give you the real cost upfront—no surprises.
